WHAT WE BELIEVE

1) We believe in the one and only true, holy and living God. He is the Eternal Spirit, Creator, Sovereign and Preserver of all things visible and invisible. God reveals Himself as the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, distinct but inseparable, eternally One in essence and power.

2) We believe in Jesus Christ, truly God and truly man, in whom the divine and human natures are perfectly and inseparably united. He is the eternal Word made flesh, the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. Jesus Christ, who arose from the dead and ascended into Heaven, WILL RETURN AGAIN at the last day in power and majesty. He is the eternal Savior and Mediator, who intercedes for us, and by whom all men will be judged.

3) We believe in the HOLY SPIRIT who proceeds from and is one in being with the Father and the Son. He leads men to repentance, comforts, sustains, empowers and sanctifies the faithful, guiding them into all truth.

4) We believe in the gifts of the Spirit as stated in the scriptures. God has given us different gifts. We are to develop these gifts and use them for His Glory. In regard to speaking in tongues in the church we follow the admonition of Paul in I Corinthians 14:19 where he said that he would rather speak five words in a known language than 10,000 words in an unknown tongue, therefore we do not practice speaking in tongues at our services.

5) In the area of worship we do not believe that God has given us a strict mandate for worship, therefore we are open to various expressions in worship. Some of our people raise their hands, some choose to clap and express an “Amen” once in a while. We are comfortable with that here at Tremont. Here we quote Paul in saying that everything is to be done decently and in order.

6) We believe in the Holy Bible, both Old and New Testaments. It is the inspired Word of God, and contains all that is necessary for our salvation.

7) We believe that the Christian Church is the community of born again believers under the Lordship of Christ and under the discipline of the Holy Spirit. The Church exists for the maintenance of believers and the redemption of the world.

8) We believe that the sacraments of Baptism and the Lords Supper are pledges and symbols of the Christian’s profession, and are also symbols of Gods love and grace toward us.

9) We believe provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the mortal body. Although healing cannot be demanded of God, prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures and are privileges for the church in this present age. We believe that God works through the natural processes of the human body which may be aided by medical help and through the death and resurrection of the body to a glorified state.

10) We believe that man has fallen from righteousness and apart from the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, is destitute of holiness and alienated from God, and inclined to evil. Man cannot in his own strength do good works pleasing and acceptable to God. Good works are the necessary fruits of faith and follow regeneration, but they do not have the virtue to remove our sins or avert the divine judgment.

11) We believe that men can be saved through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Through repentance and faith, sinners are regenerated by the power of the Holy Spirit, made partakers of the divine nature, and become children of God and heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven.

12) We believe it is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and be sanctified wholly, being separated from sin and the world, fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service.

13) We believe in the resurrection of the dead. All men stand under the righteous judgment of God. The righteous will dwell in an eternal state of rewards and endless life in Heaven, and the wicked will exist in endless punishment in Hell.

14) We believe in believers security. That is, once a person has received Jesus as their Lord and Savior and continue to believe and trust in Him for their salvation, they are secure in Jesus. However, if they deliberately turn away from God and do not desire to have Him in their lives, God will let them go. God is always open to their repentance and reinstatement in His Kingdom.
